Bible Study: Galatians 5

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

-Galatians 5:22-23

What are your fruits?

Does your life reflect the fruit of the spirit?

As we continue to walk with Jesus the Son, the fruits of the spirit ripen in our hearts. That they may be evident to all.

When trials come, do others see fruits of peace and joy on our tree or fruits of worry and despair?

When the blessing is prolonged, are we satisfied with fruits of longsuffering or poisoned by fruits of bitterness?

When we are treated poorly, are we protected by fruits of love and self-control? Or hardened by fruits of anger and resentment?

Like a garden, the tree of our spirit must be tended.

Time with the Holy Spirit waters us in living waters, the word of God is nourishing food, and the Son of God shines on us like the sun.

Plants need food, water, and light to grow.

This includes the fruit of the Spirit.

But when our fruits are starved, dry, and in darkness, they will not mature.

The end result is a generation or legacy of people who follow Jesus, but do not bear His fruits.

They proclaim the name Jesus on their lips but bear the fruits of this world.

Now, no person will perfectly bear the fruits of the Spirit. But spending time with God gives these fruits the chance to ripen and be a sweet aroma to Him and those around us. They are also nourishing for our soul.

Strengthening us to journey on for Him.

Holy Spirit,

Would your living waters wash over my spirit. I desire to be a faithful bearer of your fruits. To reflect the kingdom of God in all that I do. Help me to focus on nourishing my spirit in communion with you so that I may mature. Let me be pleasing in your sight.

Amen
