“But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.”
-Psalm 73:28
Who do you trust?
In a world full of deception and brokenness, it can feel hard to trust anyone. Sin has a way of making people steal, kill, and destroy one another and themselves.
It is not wrong to trust people, especially those who have shown us their love and trustworthiness.
But Who do you put your trust in?
Not only to trust the character of someone, but to take your own trust and put it in someone else’s hand?
Even the most saintly of people cannot be the holder and keeper of our trust. For this responsibility is too heavy a load for man to carry.
We must put our trust in God.
This means to trust Him with our whole self.
Do you have tendencies or personality traits that others praise or condemn you for?
Perhaps you talk a lot. Or think grand thoughts. Or have high energy. Or are deeply introspective. Perhaps you are wild and unwilling to be bridled by the world. Or maybe deeply sensitive, ready to cry at any moment. You may be highly social, the life of the party. Or one who operates very carefully and methodically.
The point is, there is something that makes you unique. And the world will either praise or put down these qualities. Putting all our trust in others or in the world, means to trust them with every part of us. To hope that we will be perfectly accepted and understood.
But this constant hunger for acceptance and approval is a slippery slope.
We may feel elated one moment and distraught the next.
The most well-meaning people are imperfect, and the world is like shifting sand.
But God never changes.
When we draw near to Him, we can see just how good and perfect He truly is. It is good for us to be near Him. And He is the only One who can bear the weight of all our trust, hope, and expectations. We can take our whole selves to God, knowing that we are seen, known, and loved.
Lord God,
Thank you for making me so special and unique. I offer every piece of myself to you in love and in trust. I draw near to you so that I may be restored in your presence. Use me to declare your works to all.
Amen
