Blessed Assurance

Are you afraid to die?

I think this concept is something most people think of from time to time. Especially after a tragedy blasts on the news or we lose a loved one.

And there are times when I awaken in the middle of the night, finding it hard to breathe. When terror grips me and I think, I don’t want to die!

The reality is this, the world and the chief or “prince” of this world, namely the devil, has made the fear of death his currency. He has us running scared of what we do not know, and cannot avoid.

It will come to us all.

So how do we not fear death?

Well, once we figure out where we are going, fear can be displaced by peace.

There is only one way to God.

No amount of self-help books, gurus, podcasts, meditation, breathing techniques, or positivity can get you there.

Saving little Jimmy from falling down a well, or rescuing a cat from a tree won’t do it. Doing the best we can to be good, won’t work either.

Jesus says He is the way, and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

Even when terrors in the night come, or passing thoughts of a painful or unpleasant death, I know how to dissolve the fear. I tell the devil that I know where I’m going. Even if I may worry about the people I would miss or the work that would be left unfinished should I pass today or tomorrow, I know God is sovereign. That His plans are for my good and not to harm me (Jeremiah 29:11) That I will live and not die and declare the works of the Lord (Psalm 118:17).

Because the truth is, I’m not going to die. The person right here writing these words, will not die. It is this body I have come to call home that will die. When someone moves from their house, we don’t say that they have died. We know that the person who lived in the home is alive, but they changed locations. Heaven is our true home and when we die, we simply are having a moving day.

It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we get to come home. He is the front entry door to the home of Heaven, and we have to walk through Him.

Else we will be left to wander around the home in a land of darkness, never able to come in.

He is the only way.

Let us not be afraid of death, but rejoice with the thought of drawing near to God and coming home.

Although I look forward to the day when I will see Jesus face to face, there is much work still to do. People all over the world reject, spit on, and use the name of Jesus as a curse word. They don’t truly know Him. God has given us  a Holy occupation.

To spread the news of Jesus and to show His flock the way home. We are called to let others see Christ working in us. This is shown through our unwavering faith, selfless love, and unquenchable fire for God.

So the next time you see the news, and a plane crash, brutal war, or death of a loved one has you trembling, remember God.

He is right here with you and He wants you to turn to Him.

Death has lost its sting because Jesus died on the cross to cover your sins. If you will confess with your mouth and believe this in your heart, you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

Jesus has made a way.

Walking with you,

Jasmine
