Have you ever asked this question?
God, what is your will for my life?
I have wondered this time and time again. As if there was one specific thing that He wanted me to do.
When the road got rough, or things looked uncertain, I asked:
Am I on the right path?
There was a time when I was working for a Bible camp for the summer. I was in my early twenties and new to the world of work and purpose-driven questions.
I remember sitting in a morning staff meeting one day and looking around at the tables of employees. I had wondered if I was supposed to be doing something more successful or flashy.
Should I be interning at a big company? Trying to start a business? Elevating myself somehow? I will never forget what happened next. I heard that still small voice:
You are exactly where you are supposed to be.
I didn’t believe the thought at first. It seemed too simple. Surely this was my brain trying to excuse my circumstances.
But time and time again, the thought has returned to me. When I question my path and wonder if I am doing the right thing, I hear those words again.
You are exactly where you are supposed to be.
It may seem hard to believe, but even with our free will choices, God is infinitely capable. Perhaps the path He is leading us on is not a single strand from point A to B. But rather, a complex, interconnected web of paths that God is guiding us on. One that works with our choices and desires. If we are pursuing Christ above all things, it is not possible for us to be on the wrong path. Jesus himself says:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” -John 14:6
The location, career path, goals, and successes are not the path.
He. Is. The. Path.
If we are choosing Jesus in all things, we are on the right path.
We are exactly where we are supposed to be.
There is a counterpart to this however.
Choose Christ, but also be grateful.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every situation and place we find ourselves, we are called to be thankful.
This is God’s will for us all.
Walking with you,
Jasmine
